Night Shooting

I was reminded today that I'm actually used to darkness coming so early in the day, so after many days of rain I took advantage of the clear sky and went shooting tonight. It took a little effort to get me to be alone this evening. I am enjoying my Panda time and was almost tempted to head over and watch the TV with a name. I've had friends texting me for the last couple hours trying to get me to meet up (apparently there is some man on bartender spooning?), yet I've held strong and spent the evening by my lonesome. I need to every once in a while or I go a bit crazy. It's been a while since I posted. The holiday treated me well and I'm trying to keep down the drama for a bit and get through these next couple months with a smile. I knew my destination was Alki and since I decided to head over the bridge at rush hour it took me a while to get over there. I knew my first stop was to be a set of old pier pilings to try out my long exposure skills. Here's the funny

I've been enjoying a new photoblog from the NY Times called Lens . I was taken there by a link from a friend about a photojournalist I've been following for quite some time who is a New Yorker now, but is originally from Belgrade named Boogie. He does his documentation of the human condition in black and white but has begun shooting in color because he "was tired of the gray skies" around him. He had a quote that so resonated with me that I wanted to share it: “If I left my house without my camera, my heart would probably start pounding and I would get all tense,” Boogie said. “That thought freaks me out. I wouldn’t be able to take it. Maybe it sounds cliché, but I really do feel like I am one with my camera. I like to compare it to martial arts, when you practice some moves so many times that — when you need to use them — you don’t think, you just react. Now that the formalities have died down and I'm home and quiet and alone for the first time in a few weeks, I wanted to share my favorite photos from the weekend. The other posts were to share in the memories with my family, but if I wanted to show someone the photos I was really most proud of, these would be it. This one may be because I love all of them so much, but I think this shot is great. This whole weekend was a lesson on shooting people and I think it helped that I adored my subjects. I really hope that I've captured their different personalities so well that the casual observer would notice it. If not...oh well, I like it! I love these moments. I took a lot of pictures from the sidelines while other people were taking posed shots, and it would make for great moments like this one.
